If I could lift 5000 lbs...

I would be in the Olympics. Or be my husband.

We had a whack of trees taken down earlier this year, and their carcasses have been reclining in the yard.   Yesterday, S loaded them in the trailer and hauled them over to a 'guy' who will mill them for us, so we have siding for the (offending) pump house.  When it's fit and ready to be sided, of course.

Here's one load, ready to go.  To move 5000lbs of tree took three trailer loads, lots of sweat, possibly some blood, but no tears.   I was conveniently in Victoria for the day so  didn't help one iota.  And therefore, I'm also unable to comment on any blood loss or tears shed. I just guessed about the sweat.

Otherwise, we've been spending some lovely sunny days sitting on the deck with the tree frogs and hummingbirds, or on the beach with the schnauzers.

And finally, one of our favourite driftwood gathering beaches:

Enjoy your day!

Finally Final

Look at me, posting twice in one day.  Will wonders ever cease !!

Today was a banner day - we got our final permit for Mayne!  YAHOOOOOO!   The specter of the in-spector ceases to loom over us.

noooo......DRINK the champagne, don't BREAK the champagne!

But wait, the specter still hovers.

S built a pump house and wood storage at the back of the property.  The pump house is part of our overall rain water system, allowing us to use rain water for gardening, washing cars or whatever we want, so we aren't taxing our community well water.

It was built within the confines of the by-laws, or code, or whatever determines where and what you can build. While still a work in progress, it's looking pretty good.

 Pump House
Log Storage (also good for hiding our neighbours shed)
However, our neighbour doesn't think it looks so good, and has complained to the inspectors.  By neighbour, I mean the fellow who owns the land next door.  For those who have been here, it's the property with the wood storage, orange tarp and lots of trees.  No one lives there - there's no house.  We've been interested in the property, and we just offered to buy the property, so he didn't have to look at our pump house, but he declined.  Up til now, we've been friendly neighbours, guess that's history.  Too bad, over one little pump house.

So, the specter looms again.

Stay tuned for the results.

Summer on the Island

It's been a busy couple of months, with moving here:

Via this route:

Meeting the new neighbours:

No kidding.   Okay, they don't live next door, but I do see them every day on the way to work.  They are in my 'hood.   I've never had cows in my 'hood before.

And there are apparently ostriches too, but they are much more reclusive than the cows, so we haven't seen them yet.  Kind of like the Klopeks, who really DO live next door to us.  That's not their real name, just the name we've given them.  Have you seen "The Burbs" ? A great Tom Hanks film from 1989.  His neighbours are the Klopeks....from a cannabalistic cult.  'Nuf said.

Back soon with quilting and car show pictures.  Wahoo!

Its About Time....

Someone who shall remain nameless (mom) has been reminding me that I haven't posted in a while.  So Mom, Happy Easter....these are all for you.  Photos and not too many words.

Master Shower in Progress

 Heart of Wood

And finally, all of us at the point, with the interloper, Tenacious F.

Woody

S has been a crafty man this week.  Of course, he's been spending countless hours putting the trim on our 19 doors (actually both sides....38 doors) and 14 windows, not to mention the trim around the great room ceiling, and also not to mention all the staining of the casings before it even goes on.

But besides that, he's been creating woody masterpieces for his office.  An amazing bookshelf behind the door:

And a picture rail for all his photos: (to be continued on the adjoining wall).

Pretty spectacular don't ya think?  We'll just call him Woody.

Boxing Day

Twas the day after Christmas and all through the house
Not a decorative bird was stirring, there was nary a mouse
(Lisa, see the hummingbird?)
The turkey was eaten, and so was the ham
there was naught in the cupboard, not even some spam

The husband was snoozing, fireplace near
While I had me a swig of some strong, special beer

(check out the new wine glasses!)

Into my new glasses I poured with delight
Some yellow tail bubbles, this will be quite the night!

That's the end of my rhyming, as the drinks have begun
Happy new year to all, each and every one.

Merry Christmas

Nothing like a charlie brown tree to make the season bright.
Merry Christmas!
