Today I am trying to visualize myself with no hair. Two weeks exactly after chemo my hair is starting to shed. Just a few to start, but it's getting more today. Even the wind is taking it away.
What's the big deal with hair anyhow - we start off bald, and many women have less and less hair as they age. I just did it early and hopefully temporarily.
I bought a wig, her name is Connie. I could only conjure up Connie Francis in my mind as a role model, but I wanted her to be more 'hip' and have a cool name. Then my friend Andrea introduced me to comic book Connie. She has blond hair and big red shoulder pads. I think she must be a super hero. She's my hero now, and who I can be.
I've called the hairdresser, so it's my decision when I lose it all, not the drugs calling the shots.
In the meantime, I am keeping busy with our upcoming quilt show, happening this Friday/Saturday at the Delbrook Rec Centre. I have 3 quilts in the show, all bound, none with sleeves (yet) and one that oooops I forgot to finish quilting. Guess what I am doing tonight.
If you have discovered my blog, please come to the show!
Hi Rebecca!
ReplyDeleteI wish I did live local and could have come to the show! I love the photos on your blog - the beach looks beautiful, so lovely in its many shades of blue and grey. :-)
I think Connie is a great name for your wig, sweetie. And I love how you have taken your own decision to go to the hairdresser... you are in control and accepting the change - and I think that's brilliant! So - comic book Connie - I am loving the sound of you with those shoulder pads!!! Are you listening to 80's music?!! You beautiful girl!! x I wish you every success with your chemo, Rebecca, lots of love to you. In the words of Arnie... "I'll be back!" :-) (but i'm not a stalker!!!!!!)
Hugs! Vikki xx
