Okay, perhaps it's a little warmer than that, but why oh why, when my first summer guests arrive must the temperature plummet to 13C and the torrential rains appear? Luckily, they are a hearty crew from Calgary (former west coasters) so a little rain was a good thing in their books.
I bought new beach towels for their arrival; who would have thought we would need them for drying after the beach, not for lying at the beach!
Regardless of the rain, which left the beach blissfully empty, the tide was out as far as I've ever seen it. On the rocks were hundreds of starfish, clumped on topped of each other by the hundreds. Unbelievable to see.
It truly is an amazing sight, especially if you are a dog from Calgary. That's our neph-dog
Roscoe in the spiffy bone collar, investigating star fish with Monkey. Oh, and S's shoes.
For an indication of the current weather situation - see below. Roscoe front and centre, with his dad and human siblings in the back. Okay, my brother-in-law, niece and nephew.
Having a lovely chat with my niece today (she's 13) I found out she's interested in sewing - YES - another convert!! I gave her my most important tips - change your sewing machine needle and rotary cutter blade often. Yeah, yeah, do as I say, not as I do.
As we were watching these photos after this walk, I also told her to look to nature for fabric colour combinations. She'll forget, she's 13, and I'm a crazy aunt, but maybe my words will come back to her sometime. Here's what inspired me:
Yes, it's cold and rainy, but who can't love mother nature.
Positively yours, Rebecca Jane
